Scaling Watershed and Forest Health Projects
Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership
Strategic By Nature partners with Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership to provide capacity building support to various communities in the Upper Rio Grande River region in Colorado and New Mexico. The Strategic By Nature team works closely with local entities to identify funding opportunities and provide grant writing support, build project pipelines/databases and facilitate peer-learning networks resulting in robust resources that support water and forest projects, and the sustainability of watershed health initiatives.

Growing Capacity for Water Conservation and Infrastructure
Southwestern Water Conservation District
Strategic By Nature’s grants and facilitation team has helped to initiate the Water Conservation and Infrastructure Partnership in southwest Colorado’s Dolores and San Juan River basins, connecting more than sixty local partners with project design and implementation support, including funding. Working with Southwestern Water Conservation Board’s Community Navigator, Strategic By Nature recently helped secure a $25 million federal funding award to support 17 distinct river and stream restoration projects across the region.

Supporting Community Conversations for the Future
Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and Babbitt Center for Land and Water Policy
The Babbitt Center, Lincoln Institute and Arizona State University are piloting a process using Exploratory Scenario Planning to help agricultural communities project a more resilient future for their community and economy. Strategic By Nature has partnered with this team in co-designing agendas, adapting processes to meet the needs of local communities, and training local facilitators and notetakers to support the workshop.

Building a Community Gathering Place
Grand Mesa Nordic Council
With a 40-year history of raising little-to-no funding beyond memberships, Strategic By Nature has assisted in the design and implementation of a $1.4 million capital campaign for Grand Mesa Nordic Council’s construction of a warming house for both people and Snowcats. The beautifully-designed Skyway Station will be built in 2025 at a location managed by the U.S. Forest Service on Colorado’s Grand Mesa, featuring one of America’s longest and most stellar annual nordic skiing seasons.

In partnership with San Juan National Forest, Strategic By Nature facilitates the work of the Southwest Colorado Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program, a driving force in regional forest health outcomes. Strategic By Nature masterfully ensures productive conversation and effective decision making among the project’s Coordinating Council members and other stakeholders, positioning all involved to advance annual work plans and maximize on-the-ground impact.

Hearing Diverse Perspectives to Inform the Future
Yampa River Stewardship Program through Friends of the Yampa
Strategic By Nature partnered with a multidisciplinary team of ecologists, engineers, graphic artists and community liaisons through Zenobia Consultants to design a series of meetings to gather feedback from the community on desired future conditions of the Yampa River. By thoughtfully designing a process that transformed technical river health data into easily understandable content, Strategic By Nature supported the Yampa River Stewardship Program in understanding the community’s vision for the future and thereby paving the path for strategizing various river health projects.Strategic By Nature
